Every quarter of each year, AIFA Reading Society, through its Book Recycle Scheme projects, donates educational materials to public schools in Nigeria. For 2021, the Society’s target is to equip at least 20 schools’ in various states across Nigeria. The States within our area of focus include Enugu, Kogi, Nasarawa, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. For the first quarter of 2021, the Society donated educational materials to eight schools in Enugu and Oyo State.
On Monday, May 10, 2021, Mrs. C. N. Ajogwu, a fellow of the Society who supports AIFA activities in Enugu State donated educational materials on behalf of the Society, to three community primary and secondary schools in Nsukka. The Igwe and members of the community, principals, and teachers of the Schools received the educational materials and extended their appreciation to the Society and everyone who supported the donations.
Additionally, on Thursday, June 24, 2021, a book donation was carried out by Ms. Ephratah Oyewole in Ibadan, Oyo State. She visited CAC Primary School 2 & 3, Sango and Methodist Senior and Junior secondary schools, Bodija to donate learning materials. Ms. Oyewole engaged the students in reading activities, and some students shared their experiences of how reading has been helpful to their studies. She further educated the students on the role NGOs such as AIFA Reading Society play in promoting a reading culture in Nigeria.
The principal and teachers at the schools expressed their appreciation to the Society. A teacher from the secondary Schools narrated his worries about students who cannot afford recommended textbooks for learning and requested the Society’s continuous support in making available educational materials for disadvantaged students.
Non-access to educational materials can reduce the learning opportunities of a child and AIFA Reading Society, in its mission to achieve sustainable educational development, provides schools with quality educational resources through its book donations project. Through the AIFA Book Recycle Scheme, the Society receives books from individuals, partners with publishing houses, and corporate organisations to equip schools that need learning materials.
