Winners have emerged in the maiden edition of AIFA Reading Society’s yearly Essay Competition for secondary school in both junior and senior school categories. At the event held at Terra kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, Oladipupo Eniola of unity junior Grammar school, Ikare, Lagos won the 1st prize of N50,000 while Amusuni patience Benedicta and Olatayo oluwatosin, both from Magbon Alade junior Grammar school, Ibeju lekki grabbed the 2nd and 3rd best prizes respectively in the Junior School category.
In the Senior School category, Anani peace faustina of Magbon Alade Junior Grammar School took the the 1st prize of N100,000 while Ashilaja Ismaila Tayo of magbon Alade Junior Grammar School and John Peace of Unity Senior Grammar School picked the 2nd and 3rdbest prizes respectively. In the Teachers’ category, Mr. Adelaja Amos Adejonno and Miss Abanum Ruth Ejiro, both from Victoria Island Senior Secondary School, Ozumba Mbadiwe Drive, Lagos, were honoured.
The event also featured a stage play by SM Drama Group on The Importance of Learning and poetic recitation by some of the students in attendance. An Executive Director of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and Vice president of the Society, Mr. jalo-waziri, who gave the closing remarks, re-emphasised that a good reading culture is essential for future leaders of Nigeria.
