Every quarter of each year, AIFA Reading Society, through its Book Recycle Scheme project, donates educational materials to public schools in Nigeria. The Society’s target for 2023 is to equip at least 10 schools’ libraries in various states across Nigeria: Lagos, Enugu, Kogi, Nasarawa, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

On Friday, January 27, 2023, representatives of AIFA Reading Society visited Khan Foundation Academy in Makoko, Lagos to implement its AIFA Book Recycle Scheme. The Society donated over 450 Textbooks to the school’s library to facilitate learning for the pupils. The school, which is situated along the riverine area of Makoko community, Yaba, Lagos, has 300 pupils and is situated on top of water, which forms part of the community residence.

As part of the activities outlined for the donation, Ms. Magdaline Oyoroh engaged the pupils in a talk session, stating the importance of reading to the pupils and why they should imbibe the culture. She further encouraged them to be serious with their academics as that will open them up to a world of great opportunities in life. In addition, the pupils were excited to teach AIFA team and their fellow pupils different subjects and topics they’ve been learning in school.

To further make the visit fun for the pupils, AIFA team engaged the pupils in an arts and crafts session where the pupils displayed their artistic skills in colouring animate and inanimate objects.

The school’s Head Teacher and other officers of the school thanked the Society for the donations to the school. Continuing, the Head Teacher narrated the challenges affecting the school ranging from lack of educational materials to poor learning environment and was excited to receive the Society’s donation. She further requested continuous support from AIFA Reading Society in making available educational materials to the children.

The Head of Operations of AIFA Reading Society, Ms. Yetunde Daramola, applauded the commitment of the teachers and encouraged them to continue in their efforts in impacting knowledge to the pupils. She stated that their efforts will pay off when the children become successful in the future.

The Society, through its Book Recycle Scheme has donated over 80, 000 books to government owned schools in Nigeria.
