International Literacy Day, observed annually on September 8, underscores the importance of literacy for children and adults worldwide. The 2024 theme, “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace,” emphasized the role of literacy in fostering global harmony and sustainable development.

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, AIFA Reading Society joined the global celebration with impactful activities highlighting literacy’s crucial role in Nigeria’s educational growth. Representatives from the Society featured on live radio and television programs, discussing the theme’s relevance to national development and advocating for multilingual education as a tool for inclusivity.

As part of the International Literacy Day 2024 activities, Mrs. Rhoda Odigboh, Director of AIFA Reading Society, appeared on TVC News, delivering an insightful interview on the significance of literacy. She called for collaborative efforts across sectors to tackle illiteracy in Nigeria and ensure quality education for all.

On Monday, September 9, 2024, the AIFA team took the conversation further on Inspiration 92.3FM Lagos, where Ms. Yetunde Daramola and Ms. Ijeoma Ezenwere represented the Society. They discussed how multilingual education enhances literacy in Nigeria and Africa, fostering cultural connection, inclusivity, and empowerment.

To reinforce the 2024 International Literacy Day theme, AIFA produced a creative video featuring team members speaking in various Nigerian dialects. This initiative celebrated Nigeria’s linguistic diversity while advocating for education in indigenous languages. The video encouraged learners to embrace literacy in their native tongues, promoting mutual understanding and accessible education for all.

AIFA Reading Society remains committed to advancing literacy, multilingual education, and lifelong learning across Nigeria and beyond.
