January 24th is the International Day of Education, a global day dedicated to the life-changing power of learning. This year, the theme was “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education.” It reminds us that students aren’t just sitting in classrooms but are active partners in building a better future.
To celebrate, AIFA Reading Society visited the bright students of Ebute Elefun Senior High School in Lagos Island on Friday, January 23, 2026. It was a day filled with inspiration, career talk, and a shared love for books.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from our Program Coordinator, Ms. Ijeoma Ezenwere. She encouraged the students to see education as more than just a school requirement, but as a superpower they can use to design their own lives.
We were honoured to have two incredible guest speakers who brought real-world wisdom to the classroom:
- Ms. Sonia Onyia (Lawyer at Kenna): Sonia spoke about the importance of an intentional attitude toward studying. She reminded students that learning isn’t a race or a competition—everyone learns at their own pace, and we should support one another with empathy.
- Ms. Barbara Aduba (Safety Professional, Oil & Gas): Barbara shared her personal journey, showing how staying focused on school opened doors for her in the energy sector. Her message was clear: start positioning yourself for a great career today!
Our own Head of Operations, Ms. Yetunde Daramola, also shared her career story, emphasizing that consistency and discipline are the secret ingredients to success.
Fun, Games, and Giving Back!
It wasn’t all serious talk! Our Program Officer, Ms. Chinazom Ekwosimba, led a fun general knowledge quiz. Students who got the answers right walked away with cash prizes, which really brought the room to life.
The biggest highlight of the day was our book donation. Thanks to the generous support of Kenna, we donated 55 brand-new books to the Ebute Elefun school library. These books cover everything from science and history to poetry and leadership.
Ms. Funmilayo Adeshina, representing Kenna, explained that literacy is the heart of their social impact work. We believe that if a child can read, they can learn anything!
The day ended with a lively Q&A session where 50 students asked smart questions about job readiness and their future careers. It was a perfect example of youth taking charge of their education.
At AIFA Reading Society, we are so grateful to Kenna for sponsoring this visit. Together, we are making sure that literacy and quality education remain a priority for every child in Lagos and beyond.
