On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, AIFA Reading Society celebrated Children’s Day with pupils of Methodist Primary School, Ibadan. This celebration was a testament to our commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning among young children and providing the necessary educational materials to support their academic journey.
The children’s day event started with an engaging storybook reading session led by Miss Tolu, one of our dedicated volunteers. She read from the book “Prize Giving Day,” capturing the pupils’ attention with her expressive storytelling. The story, which revolves around the excitement and lessons of a school prize-giving day, was particularly relatable and enjoyable for the children. Miss Tolu’s dynamic reading style made the session fun and educational, helping to improve the pupils’ listening and comprehension skills.
After the reading session, a quiz based on the story was conducted in which the pupils enthusiastically participated, eager to showcase their understanding and recall of the story. Those who answered the questions correctly were rewarded with brand-new school bags.
In addition to the quiz winners, special recognition was given to pupils who achieved the first position in their respective classes. These top performers were also gifted with new school bags, celebrating their hard work and academic excellence.
Additionally, our team also distributed children’s storybooks to the children. These books were given to encourage the pupils to read more at home, thus extending the impact of our visit beyond the day’s events.
To support the school’s educational resources, we provided learning charts and writing materials to the school authorities. These materials are essential tools to enhance the teaching and learning experience, benefiting teachers and pupils. The learning charts will serve as visual aids in classrooms, helping to reinforce lessons and make learning more interactive and engaging.
Beyond just promoting reading, we also addressed some immediate needs of the pupils. Observing that some children had worn-out school shoes, we provided new ones to replace them. This act was particularly impactful, ensuring the pupils could walk to and from school comfortably and safely.
Further to the distribution of educational materials, AIFA Team made provision for light refreshments, which added an extra layer of joy to the celebration.
This Children’s Day celebration was not just about fun and games; it was about making a lasting impact on the lives of the pupils. By promoting reading, rewarding academic excellence, and providing essential educational materials, we aimed to inspire and support the pupils in their educational journey.
AIFA Reading Society’s Children’s Day celebration at Methodist Primary School, Ibadan, was a resounding success. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these young learners and look forward to many more such initiatives. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who contributed to making this event a memorable and impactful one.
Together, we can continue to nurture a love for reading and learning in our communities.
