Alhaji Mohammed Munir Jaafaru OFR, mni was born on 25th March, 1956 in Zaria. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Bachelors of Law (LL.B) honours (1979) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1980 as a Barrister and Solicitor. Alhaji Ja’afaru also holds a Masters of Law (LL.M) from the same university (1983). He started his career as a Lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1981-1983. He attended the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (1991). He was at various times the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Honourable Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kaduna State. From 2001-2005, he was the President, Kaduna Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines & Agriculture (KADCCIMA).

He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited. He was a one-time Director-General and Chief Executive of National Maritime Authority, and also a Director in many organizations like Nigerian Hotels Limited, Leasing Company of Nigeria, Chairman, NEM Insurance Plc. He was the Chairman of the Nigerian Export Processing & Free Trade Zone (NEPZA), and serves on the Board of Tantalizers Plc among others. He serves in various Federal/State committees and Non-Governmental Organizations.

He is currently the District Head of Hanwa, Sabon-Gari, Zaria. He is also a recipient of the Officer of the Order of the Federation (OFR) in 2003.
